On May 12, 2018, the 7th Lingyin Buddhist Culture Forum was held as scheduled at the Lamp Pavilion of Lingyin Temple in Hangzhou. The Forum was to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the parinirvana of Master Hongyi and to probe into the Chinese Buddhist discipline and its practice. More than 30 Buddhist masters and scholars from the Buddhist community and the academia gathered together and shared thoughts on the topic. The monastic supervisor of Lingyin Temple Master Kuoren attended and addressed the opening ceremony on behalf of the Abbot Venerable Master Guangquan.
The topics discussed at the Forum in commemoration of the parinirvana of Master Hongyi included the study of the Chinese Buddhist discipline, the Vinaya (or Disciplinary) School of Buddhism and the transformation of Buddhism in China, the study of the past venerable masters of the Vinaya School of Buddhism, the study of Master Hongyi’s Buddhist thoughts, etc. The Forum had received 24 papers and over 30 Buddhist masters and scholars participated in it. At the closing ceremony, Master Huicheng and Professor Li Mingyou delivered concluding remarks for the Forum, in which they called for more attention to the study of Buddhist discipline and relevant topics and more joint efforts to the widespread of the Buddhist disciplinary spirit in the secular life of the general public.
