On the morning of June 12, 2019, the Chinese Buddhist Chant Workshop co-organized by the Buddhist Association of China and the Buddhist Association of Hangzhou, and undertaken by the Chinese Buddhism Sutra Lecture Exchange Base, Lingyin Temple in Hangzhou and Dongyang Tianbao Temple, was opened in Dongyang City, Zhejiang Province.
Attendees of the opening ceremony included the Vice Chairman of the Buddhist Association of China Master Yanjue, the General-Secretary of the Buddhist Association of China Mr. Liu Wei, the Vice General-Secretary of the Buddhist Association of China and Abbot of Lingyin Temple Venerable Master Guangquan, the Director of Branch One of the Ethnic and Religious Affairs Committee of Zhejiang Province Mr. Lou Jiantao, official leaders of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Jinhua Municipal Committee and the United Front Work Department of the CPC Dongyang Municipal Committee, scholars and experts, and trainees of the workshop.
Over 60 male trainees from 19 provinces and cities, all of whom were Chinese Buddhist masters and lovers of Buddhist chants with some vocal music skills, participated in the Chinese Buddhist Chant Workshop. The teaching faculty was formed by experts and professors from academies of music in Beijing, Shanghai and Zhejiang Province and Buddhist masters who were proficient in Buddhist chants.
The Chinese Buddhist Chant Workshop aimed to inherit and boost Buddhist chants and foster Buddhist talents in this field. The agendas of promoting friendly exchanges between the Buddhist community and the outside world and the development of Buddhist altruism were highly valued and supported by the United Front Work Department of CPC Central Committee.
