At 9:30 am on December 26, 2014, Venerable Abbot Guangquan gave a lively lecture on Chan culture to the trainees of Hangzhou Business Training Program of School of Continuing Education, Tsinghua University at Huayan Hall of Lingyin Temple. The theme of the lecture is how to see the world through the third eye.

Venerable Abbot Guangquan spoke with fervor and assurance on Chan culture, citing such well-known allusions and gong’ans (gong’an, a thought-provoking story about Chan masters’ interactions with disciples and other interlocutors) as ＂Master Huike’s Cutting Off His Arm＂ and ＂Go Drink Tea＂ to illustrate Buddha nature in an easily understandable way. All sentient beings have a Buddha nature, only obscured by ignorance and worry, and thus we should keep our mind clear and see through problems, the world and everything so as to be as crystal clear as a mirror.

Venerable Abbot Guangquan expressed his hope in the last that a mind clean up should be done every day until all stuff can be taken up or put down with equal ease. The limitless wisdom of Chan should be applied to real life and business management in such a way that employers well treat their employees with a grateful heart. Then a harmony between the external world and the internal mind and a wisely happy combination of daily work and life can be achieved.
