On December 10, 2017, the two-day 4th Yunlin Cup Go Tournament for University students in Zhejiang came to eventful conclusion at Zhejiang Gongshang University. The Vice-Principal of Zhejiang Gongshang University and Director of the University’s Physical Culture and Sports Commission Mr. Zhao Yingjun delivered a closing speech. On December 2, 2017, the opening ceremony of the annual academic symposium on Wuyue Buddhism (Buddhism promoted by the King of the Wuyue State during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms (907-960)) was held on Fayun Campus, Hangzhou Buddhist Academy. Buddhist tin staff presented to Ven. Fangzhen by Ven. GuangquanOn November 28, 2017, a grand enthronement ceremony (a ceremony to celebrate the promotion of a Buddhist master to the position of the abbot of a temple) for Ven. Fangzhen was held at Zhong Putuo Temple in Dongtou County, Wenzhou City. Among those in attendance were venerable Buddhist masters from China and abroad, as well as dignitaries and Buddhist believers from all walks of life, who gathered together to witness the enthronement of Ven. Fangzhen. At the ceremony, the symbolic Buddhist tin staff was presented to Ven. Fangzhen by Ven. Guangquan (the Vice Chairman of The Buddhist Association of Zhejiang and Abbot of Lingyin Temple), and the Dharma utensils presented by other prominent masters. On November 13, 2017, the annual grand assembly for all Buddhist monks and nuns of the greater Hangzhou area was held at Fayun Campus of Hangzhou Buddhist Academy. Attendees also included the secretary general and executives of Buddhist associations at district and municipal levels. More than 650 Buddhist masters attended the assembly, as well as the students and faculty of Hangzhou Buddhist Academy.The assembly began with the national anthem of the People’s Republic of China and was presided over by the Vice-chairman of The Buddhist Association of Hangzhou Master Yuezhen. On October 29, 2017, the third volunteer training course of Lingyin Temple came to a successful conclusion. The three-day training course aimed at fostering volunteers with the spirit of the Bodhisattva, dedication, while enhancing their understanding of Buddhist concepts as well as their own abilities.The contents of the training course included morning and evening chanting sessions, Buddhist rituals and rites, Buddhist monastery affairs management and Chan meditations. The quality of the volunteers’ understanding of monastic life was improved remarkably after the experience of living int a Buddhist temple where bells are tolled and drums beaten in the morning and evening. Such training courses will be held by Lingyin Temple on a regular basis in the future so as to enhance the comprehensive quality of the staff. On October 21, the 2017 Training Course for Buddhist Monastery Affairs Management in Zhejiang Province was held at Lingyin Temple in Hangzhou. Attendees at the opening ceremony included the Vice-director of Ethnic and Religious Affairs Committee of Zhejiang Province Mr. Ni Zhongyang, the Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Buddhist Association of Zhejiang Venerable Yizang and Venerable Guangquan, Venerable Kexiang and other Dharma masters in charge of monastery affairs in other temples in the province.
